dress up

babooshka boutique dress, jil sander shoes
Playing dress up this evening. I've been so stressed out lately, it was nice to just put on pretty clothes and prance around for a bit. I've been long overdue in posting this dress I received from Francesca a while back. It drapes perfectly and is one of those great throw-on pieces for when you're feeling lazy but don't want to look sloppy. Anyway, it's back to work for me.

color, for once

f21 tank, target tank dress worn as skirt
There was a time when I wouldn't have touched anything pink with a ten foot pole. It was part of that whole pre-teen, ~rebellion~ phase against all things girly (this was when I wore primarily boys clothes). Obviously that era has ended. In fact, lately I've been craving pink (or any color for that matter). While I still love my black and whites, suddenly finding the perfect, bright-colored summer dress is the most important thing in the world. Color will most definitely be making its way into my wardrobe this summer.

Also, this bag has fast become my new favorite. It's the perfect size for all my junk and more visually interesting than a plain ol' canvas tote. Check out more of Misha's designs at her Etsy store, Misha Market.

t by alexander wang tank, clu shorts, target sandals
Something simple for today (although that's nothing new). I have a feeling I'm going to be living in these shorts and sandals all summer. They're kind of perfect. These photos don't quite do the shorts justice but take my word for it, they are pretty much the cropped offspring of my dream pants in an even better fabric.

I've got a bit of food porn for you today as well. Kind of sloppy as I was running low of chocolate, but tasty nonetheless. I'm also going to attempt these tonight. If all goes as planned, I will have a very happy stomach tomorrow morning.

A reader in San Francisco, Ejay, sent me this painting he did of me a couple days ago. It's always an extreme honor to be the inspiration for a drawing or painting, sort of the ultimate compliment. Thank you so much, Ejay! He doesn't yet have a website up, but keep your eye on his blog, Can't Reach REM. This kid is talented.

true summer

complexgeometries top, clu shorts, dries van noten heels, proenza schouler sunnies
This weekend has been much too hot for my liking. Anything over 75 degrees and I stop functioning normally and just lay around and drink several of these. Basically, I become a vegetable.

Anyway, these shades came in the mail from Proenza Schouler last week. Perfect timing too, as I'd been wanting something other than my Anthropologie faux-Wayfarers. The shorts and shoes are also recent aquisitions (which means I haven't been sticking to my self-imposed shopping ban. oops.), the shoes from eBay and shorts from Frances May.

Now I'm off to the library to study for a French exam. Eep. Happy Monday!

ps. I'll do a little how-to on the shirt as a skirt from my last post soon!

thrifted shirt and pants, vintage clutch from etsy, aldo sandals, anthropologie sunglasses
My latest obsession is black pleated pants cropped just above the ankle. They perfectly satisfy my need for something comfortable but not completely sloppy to wear on my lazy days. I now own three pairs, but my favorite pair has to be these, which were an extremely lucky find at Goodwill. I'm all for getting multiples of something that works for you. These shoes are another recent purchase and are pretty much my Target sandals in heel form. Love it.

In other news, I'm thinking about cutting my hair. It's been driving me crazy the last week or two and I definitely want to go back to short. Just how short, I don't know yet. Anyway, expect a change in hair soon...

thrifted shirt and skirt, shoes from ebay, vintage beaded clutch from etsy, bracelet from leviticus jewelery
For some reason any trace of inspiration seems to have been sucked out of me, but now that midterms are over I at least have the energy to wear something other than an oversized sweater and jeans. Thank god. It feels nice to dress up again.

Also, thanks to Tara of Leviticus Jewelery for sending me this great piece from her jewelery line. It can be worn a multitude of ways (including across the body, Bliss Lau-style) which means instant love.

McQ for Target cardigan, complexgeometries top, thrifted pants (worn with Target lace-up sandals)
This complexgeometries top I bought from Reborn is one of the best purchases I've made lately. I've been eyeing the line for a while, but have been hesitant to make a purchase without being able to see and feel the garment in person (I only recently discovered a stockist here in Portland). Anyhow, I finally took the plunge and I couldn't be more pleased. The draping is gorgeous and it's incredibly versatile. Gotta love clothes you can play with. Check out the video for their F/W 09 collection.
